This project for a house occupies the corner of a large garden of a Victorian detached house, with tall mature Scots Pine trees. The site is on a steep hill rising up behind Dalkey village, and from the first floor, the bedroom and terrace enjoy views over Dublin Bay and the city.
An existing plastered garden wall makes a curved corner at ground floor level, and this wall is continued around the new site. Within this site two private courtyards are created, serving accommodation with floor-to-ceiling glass screens.
The accommodation is thus divided into three independent bedroom “apartments”, two at ground floor, and one at first floor. The external treatment of the house is intended to blend seamlessly with the existing garden wall, and the same plastered or screeded finish is used for all external surfaces – sand and cement for the walls and grey asphalt for the roofs.
